Talking Anchorage

Talking Anchorage

TALKING ANCHORAGE is a sociolinguistic and anthropological investigation into language variation in Anchorage, Alaska. Language use and identity are inextricably linked, and conversational practice is fundamentally symbolic as it negotiates social space. So, at the same time this project will map phonological and morphosyntactic language variation across geographic region, this archive will be thematically built to examine how long-time Anchorage residents symbolically represent themselves through discourse on topics of medicine, energy sustainability, gender, politics, education, and, of course, region.
